The rules we play by

How this guide works*

What gets in

EatStreet covers 104 restaurants across all of Amsterdam: the canals, the neighbourhoods, and the parts beyond the ring that other guides skip. Every entry is chosen on its merits. Restaurants cannot pay to be included, cannot pay for a better score, and cannot pay to be removed from a list they'd rather not be on. There are no press dinners and no sponsored spots. One entry (Bar Jules) was suggested by a friend of the house; it was researched and scored exactly like everything else.

The score

Scores run to one decimal on a 10-point scale: 9 and above is a citywide destination, 8 to 8.9 is great and worth crossing town for, 7 to 7.9 is a solid pick you'll be glad you know about. We don't list places below 7; inclusion is the first endorsement. Scoring is an art, not a science: the number is shorthand, the writing is the judgment. Scores are reviewed continuously and every entry carries a "checked" date; when a kitchen changes, the score does too.

What to order

The dish recommendations on every page come from reading the crowd: dishes that recur across hundreds of diner reviews and critic write-ups, checked against the current menu. Prices are taken from the menus as published and will drift; treat them as a compass, not a contract.

How we make money

Some booking links on this site are, or will become, affiliate links: if you reserve a table through them, the restaurant's booking platform may pay us a small commission. That's the whole model. Commissions never influence who is included, what we write, or how anything is scored. The link earns, the review never does. If we ever run a newsletter sponsor, it will be clearly labeled and will never be a restaurant we review.

Photography

Photography is courtesy of the restaurants themselves (their own published imagery) or credited press photography, with the photographer named where known. Every image carries its credit. If an image of yours appears here and you'd rather it didn't, write to us and it comes down the same day.

Freshness

Every venue was verified open against its own website or current press when added, and carries a checked date. The Right now section refreshes weekly. Spot something that's closed, moved or gone downhill? Tell us; the guide is only as good as its last correction.
