Helling 7

Wood-fire cooking in a former shipyard canteen in Noord, where critics and guests alike single out the terrace and the view over the IJ.

Helling 7 opened in November 2021 in the former canteen of a shipyard on the IJ, built from old shipyard materials to a design by architect Marijn Droog. Daan Bonsen, of Café Panache and Door 74, is one of the owners. The kitchen cooks over a wood fire. The October 2026 menu has starters at €14 to €18, mains such as cod, picanha and veal chuck at €22 to €28, a sea bass to share at €60 and côte de boeuf at €14 per 100 grams. A chef's menu of four or five courses costs €60 or €70, also in a vegetarian version. Het Parool's Mara Grimm gave the opening kitchen a 7 in 2022: she found the view magical and the veal ribeye the best dish, but marked down several plates and service stretched by staff shortages. Gault&Millau has it at 13 out of 20 in 2026 and singles out the open-fire scallops. The Infatuation praised the charred cauliflower and the entrecote in 2025.

Dinner daily from 17:00, lunch on Saturday and Sunday from 12:00 to 15:00; book by phone or email. You can moor a boat at Amsterdam Marina, and dogs are allowed on the terrace only.
