Eetcafé Sonneveld
Stamppot of the day at 16.95 all year round under a wall of Wim Sonneveld photographs, with the Westerkerk on the terrace.
The building on the corner of the Egelantiersgracht belongs to Stichting Blijvend Applaus, the foundation Wim Sonneveld set up, and the eetcafé that took his name fills its walls with photographs of the cabaret star and runs on a menu he would have recognised. Aimee and Cora, tante Cor to the regulars, run a room split by an enormous wooden bar, and the kitchen does the whole Dutch canon without irony: a Hollandse stamppot van de dag at 16.95 every day of the year with rookworst, meatball or a vegetarian option, a biefstuk klassiek uit de jus at 26.95, kalfslever with bacon and onions, Wim's kipsaté, Sonneveld spareribs at 24.95 and a fish of the day at market price, plus two beef croquettes on bread at lunch. It is open seven days from 11:00 to 23:00, takes reservations and seats groups of up to 85, and the terrace looks straight down the canal to the Westerkerk, which is why the tables mix Jordaan pensioners with people who found it on their way to the Anne Frank House. Mokum Magazine gave it a warm write-up in August 2026. Judge it as what it is, a kind, unhurried eetcafé of the old school with a steady kitchen and tourist-facing prices, rather than a destination.
Open daily 11:00 to 23:00; reservations via OpenTable or phone, easy for groups. Order the stamppot of the day or the kalfslever, and sit outside for the Westerkerk view.
